YOUR CO-OP.
YOUR VOICE.

Thank you for visiting my website and being a part of the conversation about DMEA's future!

Our DMEA is emerging as one of America's leading rural electric co-ops, setting the gold standard for transparency, local control, and proactive solutions for cheaper, cleaner, homegrown energy.

I'd be honored to continue carrying this exciting work forward with you.

Safeguarding your pocketbook

Inflation is hitting everyone hard. While every other Colorado co-op has raised their rates, DMEA has had no rate increases in the past five years. Energy costs fall hardest on hard-working families and it's very important to me that they have an advocate on the Board. DMEA is financially strong and in the last two years the Board has returned nearly $6.7 million in prior years’ margins to our members as capital credits.

DMEA supports a strong local economy by providing reliable and affordable electric rates and blazing-fast Internet through its fiber broadband subsidiary, Elevate. By the end of this year we anticipate that 82% of our members will have access to Elevate, and the Board has set a goal of reaching every coop member by 2027.  No other Colorado co-op has achieved anything close.

At the same time, we're developing more local low cost renewable energy which boosts our grid’s resilience, aids in reliability, and provides our members with affordable energy.

ENSURING BOARD
ACCOUNTABILITY

As your DMEA Board member, I’ve supported making our monthly board packets and financial reports available online for all members to see. I’ve also participated in listening sessions across our service area, encouraged members to attend board meetings to share their feedback, and backed a policy that DMEA shall be non-partisan in all political matters.

A VISION FOR DMEA

Kevin Williams Montrose.jpg

I grew up in a small dairy farming community in upstate New York, which instilled in me a deep connection to people who work the land and a strong work ethic.  My spouse Brenda and I have lived in Montrose for 40 years.  Our daughter was born and raised here and graduated from Montrose High School in 2005.  We love western Colorado and in our spare time enjoy gardening, hiking, reading, good music and swing dancing.

I received a post graduate degree from the University of Idaho in Forest Resources.  I have been employed in the nonprofit sector most of my career working with people in rural communities throughout the Intermountain West and Great Plains to give them a voice in decisions that affect their lives.

As a long-time resident of Montrose I’ve been involved in community led efforts to safeguard our Western Slope water, ensure that development pays its own way, and improve our public education system, just to name a few. Someone asked me when I first joined the DMEA board if it was like drinking from a fire hose and I replied "no, it was like drinking from the Gunnison Tunnel!"
